This seems to be around right. Even most so-called “tankies” in the US are center-left social democrats. For example, every “tankie” I know personally or by reputation who is under the age of 70 is pro-gay rights, pro-trans rights, pro-immigration, and many are pro-drug legalization. These are hardly classic Stalinist or Maoist positions.
